Island of Smiles and Colors

Laiza Joy Guillema | December 14, 2021

The culture of the Philippines is a vibrant chronicle of the country’s long history. People’s faith, unity with one another, kinship with the environment, and appreciation of life are all reflected in our traditions.

The Philippines, according to Britania.com, are made up of about 7,000 groups of islands located around 800 kilometers off the coast of the South. A voyage conducted by Ferdinand Magellan landed in our country in 1521. Additionally, the Philippines were given the name Filipinas in honor of the late King Philip II of Spain. After Magellan's mission, many Spanish expeditions took place.

The Philippines is one of the Asian countries featuring exquisite tribes with rich culture and traditions practices. Our vibrant and colorful culture sets us apart from the rest of the globe. Due to the dispersed geographical location, several tribes/ethnic groups emerged and continue to emerge as the day progresses. Each group has its own distinct personality.
